1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to battery chargers for use on nominal system voltages not exceeding 600 V intended for household, commercial, or industrial use in accordance the with the rules of Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard applies to (a) portable, mobile, and stationary battery chargers for indoor and outdoor use; (b) fixed battery chargers for indoor use; (c) marine battery chargers intended to be permanently installed on a boat, as covered in Clause 8; and (d) battery chargers for special applications such as wheelchairs and other medical applications, as covered in Clause 7.
1.3
This Standard does not apply to (a) battery chargers that are not a complete assembly and that depend on installation in an end product to comply with the requirements of this Standard; (b) direct plug-in battery chargers or to cord-connected battery chargers having an extra-low voltage Class 2 output, as covered by CSA Standard C22.2 No. 223; (c) battery chargers for use (i) with an internal combustion engine driving a centrifugal pump; (ii) in a marina or boat-yard; (iii) in a fire protection signalling system.
